How Big Is The Largest Planet?
I'm sure we all know the largest planets in our solar system are Jupiter and Saturn but what about out of all of the galaxies or maybe all of our universes well today we have some planets that will seriously melt your mind because of how big they are but before we blast off why not.
- coming up first let's look at Earth so we're not going to spend too long on this planet as we already live on it God just so we can get some perspective and compare it to other planets let's look at earth the earth has a diameter of twelve thousand seven hundred kilometers and despite its seeming so large to us it's actually a pretty tiny planet in the grand scheme of things.
- now let's check out Kepler 22b this planet is not actually the largest in our solar system we're about to get to those but this planet is amazing as it's incredibly earth-like it's 26 thousand kilometers in diameter and as you can see this is how big it is compared to the planet Earth amazingly this planet is actually habitable meaning we could live on it this is because it's an exoplanet which is a planet outside of our solar system not much is known about exoplanets as the first one was discovered in 2012 but they could definitely be a viable area to live on if the world becomes uninhabitable.
- next let's look at Jupiter so Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system it's absolutely massive at 139 thousand eight hundred kilometers in diameter but humans will likely never be able to inhabit this planet that's because the temperature of the clouds of Jupiter is around minus 200 degrees and the temperature of the center of the planet is around 24,000 degrees so you can either be freezing cold or boiling hot either way humans won't be able to live on Jupiter anytime soon.
- and next up let's check out the Sun now obviously the Sun is technically a star, not a planet but we will look at it just so we get an idea of how big the other planets be going to look at our and the Sun is going to be the last recognizable thing on this list that you'll actually know about the Sun is actually a yellow dwarf star made of glowing gases and the sun's diameter is a massive 1.4 million kilometers. - moving on let's check out Sirius a-ok now onto the fun stuff and by fun I mean scary all of the planets from now on you won't recognize as they're so big and far away Sirius a is a massive planet located 8.6 light-years away from Earth and it's actually said to be the brightest planet in the night sky Sirius a is almost double the size of the Sun coming in at 2.5 million kilometers in diameter and it's also said to be one of the most beautiful planets in our universe.
- next up is Vega Vega is an absolutely colossal planet at 3.8 million kilometers in diameter it's so big it actually has a family of planets surrounding it and it has around ten times the mass of Jupiter the largest planet in our solar system if you thought serious a respek then here it is compared to Vega.
- next let's look at Arcturus okay now things are really going to turn up a notch Arcturus is 36 million kilometers in diameter it kind of resembles one ginormous version of the Sun but here's the Sun in comparison to Arcturus and here's our Taurus in comparison to Vega it's around 37 light-years away from Earth and it's part of the Boots constellation.
- now let's look at my cute this planet definitely has a cool name but it's also ridiculously big this planet has a diameter of 2.4 billion kilometers if you thought Arcturus was big then check out the comparison some this is actually the largest star in the universe but believe it or not there are even bigger stars than this out there amazingly it was discovered all the way back in 1860 by German astronomer and compared to uy scuti the Sun is microscopic but do you want to see a planet that makes you ice Scootie microscopic well.
- then let's look at t when 6:18 t on 6:18 is actually a black hole but it's classified as a supermassive black hole the diameter of this black hole is 400 billion kilometers it's pretty impossible to even imagine anything that big but to put it into perspective it weighs 66 billion times the mass of the Sun but thankfully we humans don't have to worry about getting sucked into this black hole that's because it's around ten point five billion light-years away from Earth so by now you're probably thinking I'm sure that's the largest thing in our universe right well.
- no let's move on to the cat's eye nebula the cat's eye nebula is much bigger than anything we've ever seen before the cat's eye nebula is 250 trillion kilometers in diameter by now I may as well just say any number seeing as we can't imagine anything this big but if this planetary nebula really is 250 trillion kilometers in diameter he may be wondering what exactly is a planetary nebula well the nebula is an interstellar cloud of dust hydrogen and helium and a planetary nebula just means a ring-shaped version of a nebula these phenomena are caused by stars outer layers being thrown into space at the end of the lines of the stars so that's how we get something as terrifying as the cat's eye nebula
but, let's go even bigger by looking at the helix nebula the helix nebula is much much bigger than the cat's eye nebula here's the size comparison of the two but unfortunately I can't tell you the diameter in kilometers as it's too big instead I have to convert kilometers into lightyears the helix nebula is 3 light-years in diameter this means if you want to go from one end to the other of this nebula then it will take you 3 lightyears and it's around 700 light-years away from Earth amazingly because of how big this nebula is you can actually see it with a small telescope.
- now let's look at the Omega Centauri the Omega Centauri is absolutely humongous and if you thought the helix nebula was big well this is 50 times the size of that the Omega Centauri comes in at a hundred and fifty light-years in diameter and it's actually known as a globular cluster it's around sixteen thousand light-years away from planet Earth and has been around for eleven point five billion years but, that's pretty tiny compared to the Boots void makes everything else we've looked at completely microscopic it has a diameter of 250 million light-years and it's actually a spherical region of space containing a few galaxies but some people classify the Boots void as a supercluster.
- finally let's look at the largest thing known to anyone which is the universe is what encapsulates every planet and solar system galaxy we could possibly think of it's over 150 billion light-years in diameter and it's what encapsulates everything we've looked at on this list and more some say the universe is the biggest thing we can comprehend but some scientists actually believe we live in a multiverse this would mean this actually multiple versions of the universe but scientists are still torn on this and we don't really know but this list is pretty amazing scary and mind-blowing all at the same time but now it's time for me to ask you a funny question if you had the option of going into space to travel there would you vote in the poll and let me know if you guys.
